We love a debut single here on RIDE and Nigerian spitter Sammy Smack is the latest artist to catch our attention with his brand new track Coast to Coast.
This incredibly high-energy Afrobeat infused Drill track was created alongside his mom/manager, and then recorded in Rockville, Maryland. It was his mom that encourage him to add the Igbo (a Nigerian language) hook. It really encapsulates the track and Sammy’s pride when it comes to his heritage and how he’s living life now.
“My life is a movie I’m the star and you upset, Young destined for greatness I think that’s why they upset, Even if you don’t like it you still gotta pay respect”.
Sammy’s flow is cold on this one. The way he seamlessly blends UK drill, US hip-hop and afrobeats makes this track so fresh and makes him stand out from his contemporaries in stateside.
Its the fun factor that really makes this track special though. So many drill tracks can get bogged down in dark, gritty lyricism. Where as Sammy has chosen to keep things brighter and more upbeat, making this a potential summer anthem!
With a refreshing attitude and unique style, Sammy Smack is without doubt one to watch for the rest of the year. He’s got bags of potential and Coast to Coast is a great introduction to this talented young artist.
